Steve Tirado
President and CEO
Since joining Silicon Image in 1999, he has served in a number of capacities, most recently as president of the storage division, and earlier as chief operating officer and executive vice president of marketing and business development. Tirado hails from Sun Microsystems, where he served as vice president of marketing for the Thin Client Products Group, with responsibility for driving the marketing and sales development efforts required to establish Sun's thin client product family and associated server software in the marketplace. During his 13-year tenure at Sun, Tirado held senior positions in both sales and marketing, including director of product marketing for Volume Desktops, general manager of Sun Mexico, regional manager of sales for Latin America and product line manager for SPARCstation Desktop Products. Tirado received a master's degree in business administration from the University of California at Berkeley, a masters of social work degree in community organization management
and planning from Boston University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara.
Eric C. Almgren
Vice President of Business Development and Intellectual Property Licensing
As Vice President of Business Development and Intellectual Property
Licensing at Silicon Image, Almgren is responsible for growing the
semiconductor and software IP licensing business for PC, storage and
consumer electronic segments. During his tenure, he has grown the
business from $6 million in recognized licensing revenue in 2002 to $44
million in 2006. He has also established IP licensing as a Silicon Image
revenue category requiring coordination of cross-functional resources
including product definition and development, engineering, marketing and
sales. Prior to Silicon Image, Almgren was the CEO and director of Vivcom,
where he led corporate strategy and development of PVR, set top box and
video search and indexing server software products. Almgren was the
Founder, CEO and Chairman of Mixman Technologies Inc.

), a consumer music hardware, software and content
company. Almgren has also held executive leadership positions at Beatnik
as a board member and EVP Corporate Development as well as business
management and engineering positions at LSI Logic and Hewlett-Packard.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the
University of California Santa Barbara, and a Masters in Business
Administration from the University of Texas.
Harold Covert
Chief Financial Officer
Covert brings to Silicon Image more than 30 years of financial management experience at technology and telecommunications companies. From 2005 to 2007, Covert served as CFO for Openwave Systems Inc. and as a board member and chairman of their audit committee from 2003 to 2005. Covert has previously served as the CFO of Adobe Systems Inc., Silicon Graphics, Extreme Networks Inc. and Fortinet Inc. Earlier in his career, he held financial management positions with industry-leading companies including Northern Telecom Inc., ISC Systems Corp. and Brush Wellman Inc. Covert received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lake Erie College and an MBA from Cleveland State University. Covert is a Certified Public Accountant and has served in the United States Army.
Sal Cobar
Vice President of Worldwide Sales
Prior to his most recent appointment in April 2007, Cobar, served as Silicon Image’s senior director, strategic accounts and Americas sales, where he was instrumental in developing and spearheading the company’s overall strategic account sales initiatives as well as leading the America’s sales team.
Cobar brings over 30 years of industry experience to his role at Silicon Image. Prior to joining the company in April 2001, Cobar held several strategic sales and marketing positions during a 12-year tenure at Sun Microsystems. In those positions, Cobar had management and executive responsibilities for engineering, operations, and the creation and execution of new markets for network-based thin client technology.
In June 1980, Cobar joined Xerox Corporation for nine years driving multiple engineering and operations initiatives, including designing a half million square foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with automated material replenishment system that provided JIT component delivery from suppliers to the assembly line.
Cobar earned a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from California State University, San Jose and a master’s degree in marketing from Golden Gate University, San Francisco.
Noland Granberry
VP Finance, Corporate Controller & CAO
In his role as chief accounting officer and corporate controller, reporting to the chief financial officer, Noland Granberry is responsible for leading and managing worldwide accounting and financial reporting, and for monitoring internal controls over financial reporting.
Granberry joined Silicon Image from Xilinx, Inc., a manufacturer of programmable logic solutions, where he served as the Director of Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance. At Xilinx, he established and managed a highly successful compliance program. Prior to his time at Xilinx, Granberry served as senior director of finance at SanDisk Corporation, a supplier of flash-based data storage products. While at SanDisk, he managed the worldwide accounting and financial reporting activities including monitoring internal controls over financial reporting. He was heavily involved in a secondary public offering which netted $522 million dollars for the company. Granberry also held positions as the corporate controller at IKOS Systems, Inc. and as a senior audit manager at Ernst & Young. His background in the financial and technology industry stretches over 20 years and includes experience in auditing, SOX compliance, accounting, tax filing and financial forecasting.
Granberry earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on accounting from Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan.
William G. Hammack
Vice President, Worldwide Human Resources
As head of worldwide human resources, William Hammack is responsible for the
global management and coordination of all Silicon Image human resources policies
and programs to ensure the highest degree of leadership talent for the future
growth of the company. Mr. Hammack leads the development of policies that
support of the company’s strong belief in its organization and employees, as
well as the interest of the company’s customers and shareholders.
Mr. Hammack has over 30 years of experience in the development and
implementation of worldwide HR programs covering the areas of staffing,
reorganization, compensation, benefits, equity, employee relations, training,
professional and organizational development, as well as acquisition integration.
Prior to joining Silicon Image, Mr. Hammack served as Senior Vice President,
Human Resources at Komag, Inc. where he was instrumental in the restructure and
management of a human resources department that supported 8,000 employees in
multiple locations in Malaysia and the United States. Other previous
appointments include Vice President of Human Resources positions at Zambeel, QRS
Corporation, and General Electric Medical Systems.
Mr. Hammock holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from San Diego State
University, San Diego, CA.
Joseph L. Lias
President, Simplay Labs, LLC
Joseph L. Lias is the President of Simplay Labs, LLC. Joseph is responsible for developing a worldwide brand presence for Simplay Labs, Simplay HD, Simplay Technologies, Simplay Tools and Simplay Services in the consumer electronics (CE) industry. The Simplay Labs mission is to make the HD lifestyle more rewarding for everyone: manufacturers, retailers, installers,a nd end users.
Mr. Lias has spent more than 20 years as a leader and team builder for a variety of companies. Prior to Silicon Image, Joseph served as the president of THX, Ltd., the leading provider of technologies, certification programs and quality assurance standards for the entertainment industry. Before THX, Mr. Lias served in executive leadership positions at a variety of high technology companies, such as Kipper Technologies, Inc., Carina Networks, Inc., and Terawave Communications, Inc. Mr. Lias began his career at Northern Telecom/Bell Northern Research, where he was involved in manufacturing, R&D and product management. He earned a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Simplay Labs, LLC, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., is the leading provider of testing, technologies, tools and services for the high-definition consumer electronics industry. The Simplay HD(tm) is a testing and verification program desgined to streamline the HD buying experience and improve customer satisfaction. Simplay Technologies creates software and firmware solutions that manufacturers can use to accelerate their R&D efforts. Simplay Tools provides pre-test and handheld testing tools for manufacturers and installers of HD equipment, and Simplay Services provide consulting services to manufacturers and installers of high-definition CE and PC products.
Edward Lopez
Chief Legal Officer
Lopez is responsible for overseeing the company's legal affairs, including corporate governance and compliance, securities laws and intellectual property matters, strategic partnerships, litigation as well as licensing and mergers and acquisitions activity.
Lopez joins Silicon Image from the law firm of Morrison & Foerster, where he advised public and private emerging growth, medical device and technology companies in a wide variety of substantive areas, with an emphasis on board and corporate governance matters, securities regulatory and disclosure matters, financings and strategic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, purchases and sales of assets, licensing, joint ventures and distribution arrangements. Prior to rejoining Morrison & Foerster in 2005, Lopez was general counsel and senior vice president, human resources at Terayon Communication Systems, a publicly-held manufacturer of broadband access equipment. During his tenure at Terayon, Lopez also served as acting chief financial officer with additional responsibility for finance, corporate marketing, investor relations and the IT organization. Lopez also held senior management and general counsel positions at ReSound Corporation and Nellcor Puritan Bennett, Inc., two publicly-held, medical device companies. Previously, Lopez was with the law firms Morrison & Foerster and McCutchen Doyle Brown & Enersen. Lopez earned his B.A. in Economics from Columbia University and a J.D. from the Harvard Law School.
Dr. J. Duane Northcutt
Chief Technology Officer
Before his promotion to CTO in August 2003, Northcutt oversaw the company's Systems Architecture Group. Prior to joining Silicon Image in early 2002, Dr. Northcutt held the title of distinguished engineer at Sun Microsystems, where he led a Sun Labs research group that created a number of products, including the Sun Ray, Java Media APIs, Sun Media Center and SunTuner. While at Sun, Dr. Northcutt twice received the President's Award for his technical contributions, and ended his 12-year tenure as chief technologist of Sun's Internet Desktop and Servers Group. Previously, he was a member of the research faculty at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science, where he led the research project that developed the Alpha real-time operating system and multiprocessor test bed. Dr. Northcutt holds 12 patents, is the author of a book on real-time distributed operating systems, and has authored over 40 articles and technical reports on time-critical computing, distributed systems, multimedia and thin clients. Dr. Northcutt received a master's degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in computer and electrical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University.
Rashid Osmani
Vice President of Worldwide Engineering. Rashid Osmani is responsible for the design, development, and commercialization of intellectual property and integrated circuit solutions at Silicon Image. With more than 25 years of management and product development experience, Osmani leads Silicon Image’s engineering efforts in support of the company’s strategy to deliver pure digital content everywhere.
Osmani joins Silicon Image from RF Micro Devices, where he served as Vice President and General Manager from 2005 to 2008. Prior to that, Osmani held the position of Senior Director of Engineering at Motorola, leading the architecture and systems engineering team for the cellular handset division.
Osmani has been awarded 13 U.S. patents. He holds a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a master’s of technology degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University in Hyderabad, India.
Peter Rado
Vice President, Worldwide Operations & Quality
RRado brings more than 35 years of extensive industry experience to this new role as vice president of worldwide operations and quality at Silicon Image. He is responsible for supply chain management, procurement, manufacturing, distribution, test engineering and quality. Previously, Rado was vice president of engineering of Storage Systems at Silicon Image, responsible for the development, quality assurance, and program management its storage technology and products. Prior to Silicon Image, Rado spent 17 years at Sun Microsystems. During his tenure, Rado served in a variety of leadership roles, most recently, as vice president of engineering for the Volume System Products at Sun. He also held leadership positions in Sun's Workstation Business Unit, Worldwide Operations and Boston Development Center. Prior to Sun, Rado served in management and engineering roles at Apollo Computer Inc. and Digital Equipment Corp. Rado holds a Bachelor’s degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Dr. John (H.J.) ShinVice President of Strategic Technology Initiatives
Dr. Shin has nearly 25 years of research and development experience in semiconductor technology and design, along with executive management experience. Dr. Shin hails from Hynix Semiconductor, Inc. (formerly Hyundai Electronics Industries), where he served as executive vice president responsible for memory product and technology development. Previously, he was president and CEO of Hyundai DynaLogic, Inc., a Hyundai subsidiary, and senior vice president and general manager of the System IC Division, heading the system LSI, ASIC, and foundry businesses. Prior to Hyundai, Dr. Shin spent more than eight years at the IBM Watson Research Center, first as a research staff member, and later as manager of the Digital Communication IC Design Group. He started his career at Korea Institute of Electronics Technology, where he led microcontroller development. Dr. Shin received a bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering from Seoul National University, a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer sciences from U.C. Berkeley.
Tim VehlingVice President of Worldwide Marketing
Tim Vehling is responsible for Silicon Image’s product marketing, corporate marketing and technical marketing operations worldwide.. He has nearly 20 years of progressive leadership experience in worldwide marketing combined with a strong technology background. Vehling’s expertise includes identifying and fostering strategic partnerships, driving system-on-chip (SoC) product roadmaps and definitions, and leading global teams. Vehling joined Silicon Image in 2009 from Micronas GmbH, where he held the position of vice president of marketing and applications engineering. Prior to that, Vehling was Vice President of Consumer Marketing at LSI, where he helped establish LSI as an industry leader in DVD recorder processors and launched the DVFX™ video quality branding program. Previous appointments include product and technology marketing positions with C-Cube Microsystems, ATI Technologies, Chromatic Research, and VLSI. Tim Vehling holds a degree in electrical and computer engineering from Valparaiso University, Indiana.
